The cost of heating our home has significantly increased during this season. This is a major concern for many as the winter months can be especially harsh and the need for warmth is essential. The sudden spike in heating costs can cause financial strain and make it difficult for some families to afford to keep their homes warm.
Tips to help reduce your home heating costs:
- Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature. Ever degree lower can save you up to 3% on your heating bill.
- Use draft stoppers on windows and doors to keep warm air in and cold air out.
- Close off rooms that are not used and keep doors closed to help contain the heat in the rooms that are being used.
- Install a programmable thermostats to automatically turn down the heat when you are not home or asleep.
- Use heavy curtains or blinds to block drafts and help insulate windows.
- Use ceiling fans to circulate the warm air and make the room feel warmer.
Junk fees, also known as “add-on” fees are charges that are added to the cost of a product or service without the customer’s knowledge or consent. They come in the form of service charges, processing fees and administrative fees. These fees can be difficult for families to afford who are already struggling financially.
