Hundreds Attend Legendary Steve Demitro Kids Fishing Derby in McKinley Park – Photos

September 20, 2025 — McKinley Park buzzed with excitement on Saturday morning as hundreds of people flocked to the annual Steve Demitro Kids Fishing Derby, hailed as one of the best kids fishing events in Chicago.

Families from across Bridgeport and McKinley Park — and beyond — gathered at the McKinley Park Lagoon for a day of fishing, fun, and community spirit. The weather cooperated beautifully, and the turnout exceeded expectations, with children of all ages lining the banks of the lagoon with rods in hand.
