A resident of Bridgeport informed the Neighborhood Journal of a carjacking that occurred on Saturday evening at 29th and Lowe around 8:40pm. Three individuals got out of an SUV and approaching a pedestrian, with one of them brandishing a handgun and demanding the keys. The victim hands over the keys, and the three perpetrators then get in the car and drive away, while the SUV also leaves the scene.
Residents who spoke to Our Neighborhood Journal about this incident are concerned about their safety and want to ensure that the community is informed about the crimes happening in their area. They believe that elected officials are not taking sufficient steps to address the crime problem. In 2022, the 914 beat, which includes Chinatown, a portion of Armor Square, and Bridgeport, had the highest number of robberies in the city of Chicago, with a total of 176 cases reported in a single police district. This amounts to a robbery every other day.
