Volunteers Transform Neighborhood
CHICAGO – As Chicagoans relaxed over Labor Day weekend, the Trash People of McKinley Park, a passionate volunteer group, took to the streets to clean up their neighborhood. Equipped with gloves and garbage bags, these dedicated residents scoured 35th Street and beyond, picking up litter to make the community shine.
Meeting several times a month, the Trash People of McKinley Park gathered Saturday morning to clear debris and revitalize the area. Their hard work left the neighborhood noticeably cleaner, drawing smiles from passersby and appreciation from local businesses.
After the cleanup, the volunteers unwound at Tio’s Tamales on 35th Street and Hermitage, savoring delicious food and the vibrant community spirit they’re helping foster. The Trash People of McKinley Park operate without paid staff or grant funding—just a shared commitment to improving their neighborhood. Strong Volunteers – Strong Community. Without their efforts, McKinley Park wouldn’t be the same. Check out the video of their inspiring work to see a community in action.
